Under The Dog's Nose - Family - Pets

Every hunter's most important organ would be his nose. Hunter use it to track down their prey such as rabbits. We are well aware that dogs have a very keen sense of smell. Some were even bred for it.. An example of it is the German Shepherd breed which are now being used by the law enforces to track down illegal drugs and other stuff. But how keen are their senses especially their sense of smell?

A dog's nose is way humid than ours. The reason behind it is that the moisture traps the molecules from the environment. They got the molecules from almost everything that a dog's nose can go into. That is why dogs like to lick their noses that much. A dog's mucous membrane production is higher than us in order to keep it moist. The dog's nasal membrane is the size of handkerchief if you spread it out that is why its membrane is so powerful and complex. Our nasal membrane is as small as a postage stamp if compared to theirs. That is just a comparison to easily explain how complex their nasal membrane is.

The air that the dog got once he sniffs goes through its turbinate bones and into its olfactory bulb. It then sends out the information to the dog's brain. Even their olfactory bulb is way larger than ours although our brain is more powerful than theirs. Their brain is more focused on their sense of smell that is why their sense of smell is ten thousand stronger than ours.

Dogs, as we all know, have descended from great hunting animals called wolves. That is the reason why they have a keen sense of smell. They use their incredible sense of small to track down their prey. Their keen sense of smell has been passed down from their ancestors and are now being utilized by humans for their work.
