Why You Should Buy A Boxer Dog - Family - Pets

Are you looking to get a pet? If you are, then you are no doubt having a difficult time making a right choice. You must surely have a reason why you want a pet. Any reason whether it is fun for the family, a companion for you, whatever reason there may be, your result will affect which kind of pet and breed you take home with you. Although there are plenty of pets to choose from like fish, birds and cats, dogs are still a quite popular choice. What breeds of dogs are out there? There are the German shepherds, Labradors, Pomerians among many others. One very common household dog is the Dalmatian but would you believe that the boxer dog is quite popular as a pet? Their reputation for being good-natured and having a loving character make them perfect for pets. It is assumed that the boxer dogs breed name were to come from their paws. When standing, they look like a boxer.

The boxer dog is a mixture of two other dogs... the English Bulldog and the Bullenbeisser (which is now extinct). Since boxer dogs are decedents of those two breeds, they have many traits that make it so useful. Traits like faithfulness, intelligence and playful. Many of these dogs work in security positions including police work and guard duty. Some of them can be brought up as a guide dog or therapy dog. In 1985, boxer dogs were displayed and a year later, the first Boxer club was formed. In 1904, however, the American Kennel Club registered its first Boxer dog.

The boxer's head has a very distinct feature. It is flawlessly portioned with the rest of its body. Much like the Bulldog breed, the boxer has a short face with its muscles hanging densely loose on both sides. Back in the day, an inhumane practice of cropping the ears and docking the tails were common but now many countries forbid it. Their shoulder height can get up to 25 inches and they may weigh up to 70 pounds. Boxer dogs coats are short with shades of brindle or fawn. Some boxer dogs have white on their underbellies, face and legs.

If you are really looking for a pet, look in the classifieds of your local and surrounding newspapers. You could also utilize the Internet in your search. No matter how you decide to get your puppy, be wary. If you want a good breed, use a reputable breeder. Before dealing with the person, get some background information on them. It would be best if the breeder belonged to some time of breeding or obedience club. Before you take off with your new boxer dog, be sure they have been screened for their purity.
