Aggressive Dogs - Family - Pets

Aggressive Dogs

If you say aggressive dogs you don't necessarily mean aggressive breeds of dogs. As a matter of fact, there all breeds of dogs can become aggressive, because dogs are animals too and all animals have this aggressive instinct. Some say that there are certain breeds of dogs that are more aggressive than others such as Pit Bulls or German Shepherds, but the aggressiveness of a dog depends on the training that it was given.

If you start the training of your dog from a very early stage of its life you will probably get a dog that won't present behavioral issues. Obedience training courses are the best to train your dog how to react in diverse situations and not to display all sorts of signs of aggression. The aggressive behavior of a dog includes the following aspects: barking, biting, whining and disobedience. If you detect any of these, you should train or re-train your dog. You must also see why your dog is displaying an aggressive behavior. The aggressiveness is due to several factors: fear, dominance, territorial or possessive aggression. So, your dog is not aggressive for no reason at all. The fear based aggression is due to the fact that the dog feels threatened. This fear may be triggered also by the lack of socialization with other dogs and people. So, make sure you offer your dog chances to socialize as often as possible. Start doing this even when the dog is a puppy. The puppy hood is the key period when the dog is bet trained and it can be easily taught a lot of tricks. The dominance aggression is due to the fact that dogs are animals and they like to pack up and to have a leader. If you fail to show that you and only you have a dominant position, your dog will tend to be one of those aggressive dogs that won't listen to you. The parenting aggression is only natural, as your dog will want to offer protection for the pups. Show your dog that you are trustworthy and that you can play with its puppies without taking them away from their parents. The territorial and possession based aggression can also be dealt with by a specialized dog trainer. One of the most important things is not to punish your dog for being aggressive. Don't be aggressive with your dog. You will only make things worse. Better avoid the conflict situations and talk to a trainer, enroll your dog in an obedience course and you will get good results.

All in all, dealing with aggressive dogs is not an easy thing to do. You can learn a few things to prevent dog aggression, but the most important thing is to train your dog not to respond in an aggressive manner. Even if it is in a dog's nature to be aggressive, it is not necessary for it to display this kind of behavior, and you and its trainer can teach the dog this.
