How To Train A German Shepherd?

Are you fortunate enough to share your home with a German Shepherd? He is very loyal and protective of the family to which he loves being close. This extremely active household member is smart, bold and determined. He is eager, alert and above all, naturally dominant. His fearlessness, directness, calmness, confidence and intelligence make him excellent for guard, search and rescue work. Police or military work, sniffing out drugs, guiding the blind and deaf are some other jobs he loves to do. You should know how to train a German Shepherd in order to get the best of him.

Establish as a fact that you are the leader of the pack. At the bottom of the pack is your dog. If you fail to assert yourself as alpha dog, the aggression and dominance of the rather large and very strong-willed dog will step in your way. Attending to his daily grooming helps him gets the message that you are in charge. If he respects you as his leader, he will respond to you much better. Do not attempt to take him into any sort of training until you have established your role.
